Donna's Thursday Visit
From Donna
Driscoll, yesterday (Thursday): Just a quick update. I stopped by to see your
mom on my way back from Indy. She was responsive, made requests,
vocalized, used phrases, indicated she Was thirsty. I asked the nurse if
I could give her water and she indicated so...I gave her a couple sips and she
assisted and requested more. She grimaced appropriately, smiled when I
told her about Sandy hall visiting and was better cognitively than she had been
for days. She still looks very thin and emaciated. Don't know if
it's a rally, reaction to less morophine or just part of the process. It
was an enjoyable visit and after 30 minutes, I could tell she was tired.
At her request I lowered her bed and she went to sleep. I'll let you know
how I find things tomorrow. My visit was at about 4 today. Sending
good thoughts.

We had a care-plan meeting with Karen and Amanda from Parkview Hospice. Karen stated that she has seen a significant decline in Vonna's health since Monday. At the time of the phone call (1PM), Vonna was not awake or alert enough to take medications. Karen stated that she is comfortable, and they continue to care for her bodily needs, along with the staff of Kingston. They are turning her every two hours. Karen will have another hospice nurse check in tomorrow, Thursday, and then again on Friday. It seems that they are escalating to every-day check-ins now. Karen stated that although Vonna is unresponsive, that she knows that you and there, and simply sitting with her silently and praying is enough. Thank you all again for visiting as you have, and for limiting the phone calls to the Kingston nurses - they acknowledged that status requests via phone have decrease markedly. Thanks for this. Karen emphasized that in her experience that this needs to be a peaceful time and environment around Vonna. Thank you again for making this possible and for your gentleness, love, prayers, and understanding.

Good morning. Vonna is stable, but at this point still not eating much. Mika, her care nurse, said that she had a few sips of Ensure. So far today, she has had no morphine. She is still being treated with an antibiotic for a urinary tract infection. I also spoke with her pastor at Mt. Calvary. He is looking into the logistics of starting a prayer chain for Vonna. Scott Nagy, the visitation pastor, is also to add her to the visitation list.

Hello, friends and family of Vonna Jean Buuck. Vonna is in hospice care at Kingston Care Center, 1010 West Washington Center Road. This blogsite is to keep you apprised of her condition. I will update this as often as possible, with the goal being once a day. Please keep her in your thoughts and your prayers. You may also visit her there; she is in room 228. The staff at Kingston have requested that there be as few phone calls as possible to inquire as to her condition. However, please visit her when you can, in person, instead of calling. This is greatly appreciated.
